Mezcal Machetazo Espadin (Oaxaca)
Mezcal Machetazo follows a traditional mezcal production process that has been passed down through generations. The brand Machetazo offers different varieties from three different states in Mexico: Guerrero, San Luis Potosi and Oaxaca.
The name of our mezcal symbolizes a part of the complex and labor intensive process behind the mezcal production. With a swing of the machete, or machetazo, our mezcal masters mark the beginning of the adventure behind the making of this mystical spirit.
Espadin is native to the state of Oaxaca. Our Mezcal Machetazo Espadin 40% has subtle floral notes with a light spicy finish. These tones are influenced by the tropical-desert climate where our distillery is located. Espadin reaches maturity and an ideal sugar concentration between 8 and 12 years. The mezcal masters must cut the leaves and penca at this time, soon before it starts to flower and sprout a quiote. Like our Cupreata varieties, the Espadin agaves are cooked in an earthen oven releasing aromas of roasted fruit.
